Youth Programs

Foil, Epee, Saber, Parent/Child Fencing, Junior Team, Homeschool, Camps

We offer Group Classes during the afternoon/evening year-round. Group Classes are organized by age and experience. Below is a description of the various levels and classes offered by the ICFC.

Please note:

We recommend that students below the age of 13 with no fencing experience begin with Foil instruction. We do not offer group classes in Epee for students younger than 13. We do have a youth Saber class for ages 10-14. However, younger fencers who wish to start Epee or Saber may schedule private lessons.

A complete class schedule can be viewed on the Calendar page.

Foil, Epee and Saber Classes

Beginning Level

These classes introduce novice fencers to basic footwork, bladework and the rules of modern fencing. We teach beginning level classes in all disciplines: Foil, Epee and Saber. A child may begin with any weapon, though it is advised that younger children (ages 5 - 12) start with Foil.

No experience or equipment is necessary.

Continuing Level

These classes build from material learned in the Beginning Level. Students will learn more complex footwork, blade-work, and strategy. Participants must have taken Beginning Foil, Epee, or Saber, or have comparable experience before starting this level.

No equipment is necessary.

Advanced Level

These classes build from material learned in the Continuing Level. Students will learn complex footwork drills, blade-work, and competition strategy. Participants must have taken Continuing Foil, Epee, or Saber, or have comparable experience before starting this level. Private lessons alongside advanced classwork are encouraged.

No equipment is necessary.

Special Programs

Parent/Child Fencing

This class is geared towards Parent/Child pairs and is comparable to the Beginning Level classes. Parents and their children will have the opportunity to learn basic footwork, bladework and rules together! Within a few classes, students will be able to fence each other!

Junior Team

The Junior team is for advanced fencers who wish to compete in local, regional and national events. A student wishing to participate on the Junior Team should have a thorough understanding of fencing footwork, bladework and rules. It is recommended that fencers participating on the Junior Team take private lessons at least once per week. Participation is by invitation only.

Personal equiment is required for Junior Team.
