En Garde! Welcome to the Iowa City Fencing Center!
Saturday, January 15: The ICFC is open today. If the roads are treacherous for you, please feel free to skip class today and make it up during one of our regularly scheduled classes next week. If you come, please remember to wear your snow boots and change into clean, dry athletic shoes when you arrive. We need to keep the salt and water off of our fencing floors. Stay safe, and see you soon!
We are now holding group classes and individual lessons for all ages. If you would like to register for classes or schedule a private lesson, please send us an email.
Following USA Fencing recommendations, face masks are currently required at all times at the ICFC.
If you have any kind of coupon for an Introduction to Fencing class that expired during our pandemic closure, don't worry, we will honor them in full for the class. Please see the sidebar for dates and times. Space is limited and preregistration is required - please call or email to register.
Our next six-week term of Beginner classes will start the week of January 3rd.
Fun, safe, exciting, challenging - these are the words our fencers often use to describe their sport. A lifetime activity, some of our fencers are just beginning their journey while others have fenced for forty years or more. Fencing is appealing because it is a sport that involves not just moving the body, but using the mind to outwit opponents. It reduces stress, increases fitness, and is a lot of fun!
How Do I Start?
Not sure if fencing is for you? Take one of our two-hour Introduction to Fencing classes. You'll go from how to stand on guard to fencing your first bout all while discovering the fun and excitement of fencing! See the sidebar on this page for dates.
Already enthusiastic about fencing? Sign up for one of our six-week Beginner classes. We have youth classes, adult classes, and even a parent/child class so everyone can get in on the fun. Use the Calendar tab above to see our class schedule.
No need to buy equipment: the ICFC provides students with everything needed to learn how to fence. You just need to wear long, comfortable pants, a t-shirt, and athletic shoes.
Are you looking for a way to have fun, relieve stress, get more exercise, or spend more time with friends and family?
